Grandpa's Big Shock (Yatorobic: Вѵвѵд ень Шохъ) is an episode from Season 9 of the Cartoon Network series.
It is the first episode to air since Mano's New Date is Mirana? following the series's four month hiatus due to COVID-19.
Synopsis[]
Igor recieves shocking news from his doctor.
Plot[]
Cold open[]
Igor wakes up feeling incredibly ill, having no choice but to go to the doctor. Once he makes it, after an analysis, Harimau gives Igor the terrible news, which leaves him screaming a loud "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!"
Episode[]
Igor is completely devastated to hear the news, perhaps the worst news he's received since Irene's death.
Quickly after, the phone rings in the Tabaryet residence and Zayats is eager to pick up. Igor is yelling at the phone, begging for his family to come and see him. Zayats is more than happy to oblige: "It's okay gramps, calm down. We'll be there in no time." Soon, Zayats, Lucia and Zinovy all arrive at Igor's house, where he's playing piano in desperation. After being asked what's wrong, Igor reveals the news to the family: He only has 4 weeks left to live.
Igor quickly implodes into tears, and the rest of the family is shocked to hear the bad news. Zinovy asks why he called them into the situation, Igor explains that Harimau also recommended him to spend his remaining days with his family, which to Igor meant all three had to spend 4 weeks at his house.
This leaves Zayats with no choice but to cancel all of the dates he had planned with Mirana for over the next 4 weeks. Thankfully, Mirana understands what's going on with him, and accepts his decision to call their dates off. Zayats then proceeds to tell his mom about what he had done, and sighs with regret.
As the weeks go on, Zayats recalls everything Igor did for him when Lucia wasn't home back when he was a toddler, Lucia is thankful to her father for looking after her son during his early years. Zinovy and Igor then have an arguement where the former doubts the diagnosis, as he's seen such diagnosis before and the end of them, prompting Horo to pop up to say "How much Daytime TV has this guy seen?" Igor refutes that if his grandson trusts Harimau, then so does he. Ultimately, Igor plays a sad tune on his piano while looking at his picture with Irene, knowing how close he is to reunite with her.
The final week ends, and Igor is nowhere to be seen. When Zayats asks how long it's been since he said he was 4 weeks away from dying. Lucia says it's been four weeks.
Lucia suddenly realizes what she just said, and plummets in despair. The two overhear Zinovy crying in Igor's bedroom. They open the door and are heartwrenched to see Igor lying in bed, denoting how close he is to death. Zinovy, knowing it's the last day he'll ever see his father, confesses to him that he loves him, with Igor replying that he loves him too. Igor slowly closes his eyes and Zinovy bursts into tears.
Zayats's phone rings, and he excuses himself to answer: It's Harimau, who confirms that there was a mistake in the diagnosis, and that the 4-weeks-until-death report was for another Igor. Zayats's grandfather is awoken by Zayats's news, and even surprised when he hears that he's healthy as a horse. Igor is overjoyed by the news. Zayats however explains that "I mean he IS healthy as a horse, he just might have to do something about his weight..." Zinovy breaks into laughter and states that now he knows where he got his fat from.
The episode ends with Igor telling Zinovy that his son loves him, in reference to what had happened when he was lying in bed, while Zinovy denies having said anything.
